Meltwater
Connect Meltwater to read news and social mentions, analyze searches, run exports, track owned social and AI visibility, and ask Mira.
You paste one value into PopMCP: an API token made under Account, then Meltwater API, in your Meltwater account.
Paid plan required before this connector works
No one reviews you, but API access comes with a Meltwater package. Meltwater's usage limits guide lists MI Advanced, Social Essentials, Social Advanced, Essentials Suite and Advanced Suite as including it, and the Meltwater Insights API package goes beyond that allowance. The token itself is self-serve for an admin.
- Typical wait
- None on a package with API access.
- Cost
- PopMCP adds nothing. Ask your Meltwater account manager about pricing. Plans with included access have 30,000 documents and 50 exports a month and 50 search and analytics calls a day, and a contract can set others.
- Blocked until approved
- Without API access nothing connects. Data streams, Explore+, Mira and influencer campaigns need those products in your contract, and their tools answer with an error until then. Everything else keeps working.
- Works meanwhile
- Meltwater's own app works on its own. Nothing in PopMCP works until the token is accepted.
Where to apply: Ask your Meltwater account manager whether your package includes the Meltwater API. Then, as an admin for the Meltwater API permission, open Account, then Meltwater API, and click Create Token.
- The token is shown only once, so copy it straight away.
- Explore+ exports are in beta at Meltwater, which asks customers to join through their representative.
- Setup time
- 2 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://api.meltwater.com
- Rate limits
- Most endpoints 100 calls a minute. Earned analytics 5 a second and 100 a minute. Explore+ search and analytics 10 a minute. Export and data stream creation 20 a minute. Mira 60 a minute. On plans with included API access: 30,000 documents and 50 exports a month, and 50 search and analytics calls a day. A contract can set others.
Before you begin
- A Meltwater package with API access. Meltwater's usage limits guide lists MI Advanced, Social Essentials, Social Advanced, Essentials Suite and Advanced Suite as including it. If you are unsure, ask your Meltwater account manager
- Admin level for the Meltwater API permission, which is what making a token takes
Get your credentials
Open the Meltwater API page
Sign in to Meltwater. In the left-hand menu open Account, then Meltwater API.
Meltwater API
No API tokens yet
Create a token to use the Meltwater API.
Create a token
Click Create Token. Name it PopMCP so you can find it later, then click OK. Meltwater tokens have no permission settings, so there is nothing else to choose.
Create Token
Copy the token
Copy the token as soon as it appears. Meltwater shows it only once. If you lose it, revoke it and make a new one.
Meltwater API
Paste it into PopMCP and choose the company
In PopMCP, paste the token into API token and connect. PopMCP checks it with Meltwater and lists the companies it reaches. Choose the company and the workspace it belongs in.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Meltwater in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| API tokensecret | In Meltwater open Account, then Meltwater API, click Create Token and copy it. Stored encrypted and used only on our servers.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Meltwater immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Meltwater connection Verified with your company name. Asking the AI to show your account overview returns your companies, saved searches and connected social accounts.
Troubleshooting
Meltwater did not accept this API token
Why:
Fix: Tokens are shown only once and can be revoked. Make a new one under Account, then Meltwater API, and paste the whole token.
You cannot find Meltwater API under Account, or cannot create a token
Why:
Fix: Making a token takes Admin level for the Meltwater API permission, and the package needs API access. Ask your Meltwater administrator or account manager.
Meltwater accepted the token but refused the request
Why:
Fix: The package may not include API access. Ask your Meltwater account manager.
One product's tools answer 403 and the others work
Why:
Fix: That product is not in your package, or you lack access to that company or item. Explore+, Mira, data streams and influencer campaigns each need to be part of your contract.
Analytics or search stops working partway through the day
Why:
Fix: The daily allowance of search and analytics calls is used up, and Meltwater answers 403 or 429 until it resets. The window starts with your first call after a reset. Ask the AI for your usage summary.
An export is still PENDING
Why:
Fix: Meltwater runs one export at a time, and a large one can take up to an hour. Ask again later, and do not start it again, because each export counts toward the month.
Explore+ answers 404 for a search you can see
Why:
Fix: Explore+ looks in the workspace you name, and the company space by default, so give the AI the workspace. Meltwater also answers 404 for a search in a hidden folder.
