You paste two values into PopMCP: your Memberful site address, ending in .memberful.com, and the API key of a custom application, which you make under Settings, Custom applications in your Memberful dashboard.

Memberful publishes no request limit for its API. Tools that add up many records read at most 2,000 of them per call and say when they stopped early.

Before you begin

  • A Memberful account you can sign in to, with access to Settings in the dashboard
  • Your site address, the one you sign in to, ending in .memberful.com. You use it even if members see your own domain

Get your credentials

Find your site address

Sign in to your Memberful dashboard and look at the address bar. Your site address is the part ending in .memberful.com, for example acme.memberful.com. Copy it, or just remember the first part.

Open https://YOUR-SITE.memberful.com/admin (replace YOUR-SITE with your Memberful site).

Open Custom applications

In the dashboard go to Settings, then Custom applications, and click Add a new Custom Application.

Custom applications

Add a new Custom Application and develop your own integration with Memberful.

Add a new Custom Application

Create the application

Enter PopMCP as the Application name. Leave Include OAuth tokens with this application unticked: PopMCP only needs the API key. Click Create Custom Application.

Leave Include OAuth tokens with this application unticked. That option is for signing your members in to your own app.

Copy the API key

The application's page shows its API Key. Click Copy next to it. You can come back to this page later, and Delete Application turns the key off for good.

This key reaches your real member data. Memberful has no test mode, so changes made with it are real at once.

Paste both values into PopMCP and connect

In PopMCP open Memberful, enter your Site address and paste the API key, then click Connect Memberful. PopMCP checks the key with a small read of your site and names the connection after your site address.

Open this screen →

Connect in PopMCP

Open your workspace, choose Memberful in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:

FieldWhat to enter
Site addresstextThe address you sign in to Memberful with, ending in .memberful.com. Use it even if members see your own domain.
API keysecretIn Memberful: Settings, Custom applications, Add a new Custom Application. Name it PopMCP, leave the OAuth box unticked, choose Create Custom Application, then copy the API Key. Stored encrypted.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again.

PopMCP verifies the credential against Memberful immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.

Verify it worked

PopMCP sends one small read to your site, which returns no member details, and marks the connection Verified under your site address. Asking the AI how many active members you have on each plan then returns your real numbers.

Troubleshooting

"Memberful refused this key ..."

Why: The key was copied incompletely, its custom application was deleted, or it belongs to a different Memberful site.

Fix: Open **Settings**, **Custom applications**, open your application, click **Copy** next to **API Key**, and reconnect with the address of that same site.

"We could not find a Memberful site at ..."

Why: The address is mistyped, or it is your own domain rather than your Memberful address.

Fix: Use the address you sign in to, ending in `.memberful.com`, even if members see your own domain.

"That is not a Memberful site address ..."

Why: The address entered is your own custom domain or a link to another site.

Fix: Enter only your address ending in `.memberful.com`, for example `acme.memberful.com`.

The AI says a plan does not exist when you can see it in Memberful

Why: The words are crossed: what the dashboard calls a Plan is a pass in Memberful's API, and what the dashboard calls a Price is a plan in the API.

Fix: Ask the AI to look in Memberful's passes. The connector's descriptions already tell it this, so naming the plan usually works.

A custom field is missing from an answer

Why: Memberful's API only includes custom fields enabled before July 2021.

Fix: Read newer custom fields in the Memberful dashboard, or receive them with the custom_fields.updated webhook. This is a limit in Memberful's API.
