Drift
Connect Drift to read and answer website chats, look up contacts and accounts, check booked meetings, and see playbooks and team availability.
You paste one value into PopMCP: the access token of a small private app that a Drift admin makes at dev.drift.com. It does not expire.
- Setup time
- 3 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://driftapi.com
- Rate limits
- 600 requests a minute by default, with the limits in the headers of each answer. Over the limit Drift answers 429.
Before you begin
- A Drift account that is still active. Clari + Salesloft announced a gradual sunset of Drift in March 2026, with 1mind as the successor and no published end date
- A Drift admin to install the app (connecting an app applies to the whole organization)
- Company accounts, playbooks and user provisioning (SCIM) need a paid Drift plan. Using the API itself is free for Drift customers
Get your credentials
Open Drift's developer site and build an app
Open dev.drift.com and sign in with your Drift account. Under Your Apps, click Build Your App and give it a name you will recognise, such as PopMCP. Only you can see this app: it is private to your Drift organization, and there is nothing to submit.
Your Apps
Turn on the scopes it should reach
Open OAuth & Permissions and scroll to the bottom. Turn on every scope: this app is only for you, and Drift says it can reach everything. If the AI should only ever read, turn on just the read scopes: contact_read, all_contact_read, conversation_read, user_read, account_read, playbook_read and team_read. Choose carefully, because a token keeps the scopes it had when it was made.
OAuth & Permissions
Install the app and copy the token
Under Activate Your App, click Install App to Drift. Drift then shows an access token that does not expire. Copy all of it. It is one line of letters and numbers. Keep it private, because it reaches your Drift data on its own.
Activate Your App
Paste the token into PopMCP
In PopMCP, paste the token into Access token and connect. PopMCP asks Drift which organization the token belongs to and which scopes it has, stores it encrypted and locks the connection to that organization. New connections start read-only until an owner or admin allows write actions.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Drift in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Access tokensecret | At dev.drift.com click Build Your App and give it a name. On OAuth & Permissions turn on the scopes it should reach, then click Install App to Drift and copy the token. It does not expire. Stored encrypted.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Drift immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Drift connection Verified, named after your organization's email domain or its Drift organization number. Asking the AI for an overview of your Drift workspace lists your teammates, teams, playbooks and conversation counts, and names anything the token cannot read.
Troubleshooting
"Drift did not accept this access token. At dev.drift.com open your app and click Install App to Drift, then copy the whole token and paste it here. Drift revoked some older tokens, so a new one may be needed."
Why: The token was copied incompletely, has extra text around it, or no longer works. It stops working if the app is removed or the token is regenerated. After a security incident in August 2025, Salesloft revoked Drift's OAuth connections and told customers to replace their API keys.
Fix: Open your app at [dev.drift.com](https://dev.drift.com), install it again to get a current token, and paste that into PopMCP.
"That does not look like a Drift access token."
Why: Something other than the token was pasted, such as a link or an email address.
Fix: Paste only the token Drift shows after **Install App to Drift**. PopMCP never needs your Drift password.
A tool answers 403 and names a scope such as playbook_read
Why: The token does not have that scope. A token keeps the scopes it had when it was made.
Fix: Turn the scope on for your app under **OAuth & Permissions**, install the app again, and paste the new token into PopMCP.
The AI says it cannot list all contacts
Why: Drift's API finds contacts by email or by your own id. It has no call that lists them all.
Fix: Ask by email, or start from a conversation, which carries the contact's id. For a whole list, use the CSV export in Drift.
A list of playbooks or accounts comes back empty
Why: Those need a paid Drift plan, and the playbook list only holds enabled and active playbooks. It can also be up to 10 minutes behind.
Fix: Check that the playbook is turned on in Drift and try again in a few minutes.
A privacy request does not return any data
Why: Drift emails the result of a data retrieval to the owner of your Drift organization. It does not come back to the AI.
Fix: Ask your organization's owner to check their email.
