Contentful
Connect Contentful to search, write and publish entries, manage content types, assets and locales, schedule releases, and run webhooks.
You paste one value into PopMCP: a Contentful personal access token (a CMA token starting with CFPAT-), created under Settings, CMA tokens in the Contentful web app. Then you pick the spaces to connect.
- Setup time
- 2 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://api.contentful.com
- Rate limits
- The Content Management API allows 7 requests a second by default, more on some plans. Over the limit Contentful answers 429 with X-Contentful-RateLimit-Reset, the seconds to wait. The Delivery API's limits are separate and higher.
Before you begin
- A Contentful account with access to at least one space. Any plan works, including the free one
- Your own Contentful role is the ceiling: the token can read and change only what you can in the web app, so ask a space admin if you need more access
- EU data residency accounts work the same way: sign in at app.eu.contentful.com and PopMCP finds the region itself

Sign in and open a space
Sign in at app.contentful.com (EU data residency accounts use app.eu.contentful.com) and open any space with the space selector in the top left. The token you create works for every space your user can open, so any one will do.
Open Settings, then CMA tokens
Click Settings and choose CMA tokens from the menu. Under Personal access tokens, click Create personal access token.
CMA tokens
Content management tokens act with your own access in every space you can open.
| Name | Expires | Created | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build pipelinePersonal access token | Never | Mar 2, 2026 | Revoke |
Delivery and Preview API keys under Settings, API keys are a different kind of key and cannot be used here.
Name it, pick an expiry and generate
Enter a name such as PopMCP and pick an expiry. Click Generate. When the token expires you paste a new one into PopMCP, so a longer expiry means fewer reconnects.

Copy the token
Copy the token right away: Contentful shows it once. It starts with CFPAT-. If you lose it, revoke it and create a new one.

Paste it into PopMCP and pick your spaces
In PopMCP, paste the token into Personal access token and connect. PopMCP lists every space your user can open: pick the ones to connect and the PopMCP workspace each one goes into. Tools use the master environment; to use another, open More options and type its id under Environment.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Contentful in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Personal access tokensecret | In Contentful: open any space, then Settings > CMA tokens > Create personal access token. Give it a name, pick an expiry, click Generate and copy it right away (Contentful shows it once). It starts with CFPAT-. Stored encrypted and used server-side only.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
| Environmenttext | The environment tools use unless told otherwise. Leave blank for master. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Contentful immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks each connection Verified with the space's name (Contentful · Marketing site) and notes when the account uses EU data residency. Asking the AI for the content model or the latest entries returns them from that space.
Troubleshooting
"Contentful did not accept this token."
Why: The token was copied incompletely, has expired or was revoked.
Fix: Create a new token under **Settings**, **CMA tokens** and paste only the token itself, which starts with CFPAT-.
"That is a Content Delivery API key, which can only read published content."
Why: A key from **Settings**, **API keys** was pasted. Those keys only read published content and cannot reach the management API.
Fix: Create a personal access token under **Settings**, **CMA tokens** instead.
"This token can no longer open the connected space."
Why: Your user was removed from the space, or the space was deleted.
Fix: Ask a space admin to add you back, or reconnect with a token from a user who is a member.
"The space has no environment called ..."
Why: The Environment typed under More options does not exist in the space.
Fix: Leave it blank for master, or copy the environment id from **Settings**, **Environments**.
Writes fail with 403 AccessDenied
Why: Your Contentful role does not allow that change in this space, for example editing content types or publishing.
Fix: A space admin can do it, or can give your role the permission under **Settings**, **Roles & permissions**.
"This space has no Content Delivery API key for the master environment yet."
Why: Delivery, Preview and GraphQL tools need a delivery key and the space has none for that environment.
Fix: Create one under **Settings**, **API keys** with access to the environment, then try again.
Tools fail with 429
Why: Contentful allows 7 management requests a second by default.
Fix: Wait a second and retry; PopMCP retries automatically. Avoid running many calls at once.
