You paste two values into PopMCP: your Ghost site's API URL and the Admin API key of a custom integration, both copied from Settings, Integrations in Ghost Admin. The Content API key on the same screen is optional.

Paid plan required before this connector works

No one reviews you, but on Ghost(Pro) the Admin API only comes with a plan that includes custom integrations: Starter does not. Self-hosted Ghost sites have no gate at all.

Typical wait
None - the integration and its keys appear the moment an Administrator adds it
Cost
Per ghost.org/pricing (billed yearly): Starter $18/month has no custom integrations, Admin API or webhooks; Publisher $29/month, Business $199/month and Custom plans include them. Self-hosting Ghost is free.
Blocked until approved
Everything. On Ghost(Pro) Starter the Add custom integration button asks you to upgrade, so there is no Admin API key to paste and no webhooks.
Works meanwhile
Run a free self-hosted Ghost site (or a trial on a higher plan) to connect and try every tool before upgrading the live site.

Where to apply: No form. Upgrade the site to Publisher or higher under Settings > Billing in Ghost Admin, then add a custom integration under Settings > Advanced > Integrations and copy its API URL and Admin API key.

  • Only Administrators and the Owner can add custom integrations; Editors, Authors and Contributors do not see the button.
  • A custom integration key cannot reach analytics, newsletter email reports, snippets or settings changes. A staff access token from an Administrator's profile can, and it is pasted into the same field.
  • Regenerating the integration's Admin API key or the staff access token stops the connection at once until the new value is pasted.
  • The API URL can differ from the public site address when the admin runs on its own domain; copy the API URL shown on the integration.

Rate limits
Ghost publishes no request limits for the Admin or Content API. Ghost(Pro) can answer 429 under heavy use, which PopMCP retries automatically. Upload size follows the plan (100 MB per file on Publisher, 250 MB on Business) and PopMCP sends at most 25 MB per call.

Before you begin

  • A Ghost(Pro) site on the Publisher, Business or Custom plan, or a self-hosted Ghost 5 or 6 site reachable over https. Ghost(Pro) Starter does not include custom integrations
  • An Administrator or Owner account on the site: only they can add custom integrations
  • Optional: your own staff access token, if you want analytics, newsletter email reports, snippets and settings changes as well

Get your credentials

Open Settings in Ghost Admin

Sign in to Ghost Admin at your site address followed by /ghost, for example https://yoursite.ghost.io/ghost, as an Administrator or the Owner. Click the Settings gear at the bottom left.

Open https://YOUR-SITE/ghost/#/settings (replace YOUR-SITE with your Ghost site).

Add a custom integration

In Settings, go to Advanced and open Integrations. On the Custom tab, click Add custom integration, name it PopMCP and click Add. On Ghost(Pro) Starter the button asks you to upgrade: custom integrations start on the Publisher plan.

Open https://YOUR-SITE/ghost/#/settings/integrations (replace YOUR-SITE with your Ghost site).

Copy the API URL and the Admin API key

The new integration shows three values. Copy API URL into the API URL field in PopMCP and Admin API key (24 characters, a colon, then 64 characters) into the Admin API key field. If you also want the optional Content API tools, copy the Content API key; it goes under More options in PopMCP. Click Save in Ghost.

Anyone with the Admin API key can manage your posts and members. Regenerate it here if it is ever exposed; the connection then needs the new key.

Optional: use your staff access token instead

Integration keys cannot read analytics, newsletter email reports or snippets, or change site settings. For those, click your avatar at the bottom left of Ghost Admin and choose Your profile (or open Settings, Staff and click your own name). Near the bottom, under Staff access token, copy the token and paste it into the Admin API key field instead. It has the same shape and acts as you, with your role.

Paste the values into PopMCP and connect

In PopMCP open Ghost, paste the API URL and the Admin API key (or your staff access token), add the Content API key under More options if you copied it, and click Connect Ghost. PopMCP checks that the address is a Ghost site and that the key works, then names the connection after your site.

Open this screen →

Connect in PopMCP

Open your workspace, choose Ghost in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:

FieldWhat to enter
API URLtextShown on your custom integration in Ghost Admin. Your site address works too.
Admin API keysecretFrom the same integration. A staff access token (Settings, Staff, your user) also works and unlocks analytics, email reports and settings tools. Stored encrypted.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again.
Content API keysecretOptional. Only for the Content API tools, which read what the public sees. Shown on the same integration.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again.

PopMCP verifies the credential against Ghost immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.

Verify it worked

PopMCP checks that the address answers as a Ghost site, then that Ghost accepts the key, and marks the connection Verified under your site title, noting whether it uses an integration key or a staff token and whose. Asking the AI for a site overview returns your published, draft and scheduled post counts and your members.

Troubleshooting

"... does not answer like a Ghost site ..."

Why: The address is not your Ghost site or admin domain, or the site is offline or private to your network.

Fix: Copy the **API URL** from your integration in Ghost Admin (Settings, Integrations) and paste exactly that. The site must be reachable from the internet over https.

"Ghost at ... rejected this Admin API key ..."

Why: The key was cut off when copied, the integration was deleted, or the key or staff token was regenerated.

Fix: Copy the Admin API key again from the integration, or the staff access token from your profile, and paste the whole value.

"That is the Content API key ..."

Why: The shorter Content API key went into the Admin API key field.

Fix: Paste the Admin API key, the longer one with a colon, into that field. The Content API key goes under More options.

A tool answers that it is not open to Custom Integration keys

Why: Ghost lets integration keys reach only some areas. Analytics, newsletter email reports, snippets and settings changes need a staff user.

Fix: Edit the connection and paste your staff access token (Your profile, Staff access token) in place of the integration key.

Add custom integration asks you to upgrade

Why: Ghost(Pro) Starter does not include custom integrations or the Admin API.

Fix: Upgrade to Publisher or higher under Settings, Billing in Ghost Admin, or connect a self-hosted Ghost site.
