Clockify
Connect Clockify to start timers, log and review time, report hours by project or person, and manage projects, invoices and time off.
You paste one value into PopMCP: a Clockify API key, made under Profile settings, Preferences, Advanced, Manage API keys. If your login belongs to several workspaces, you then choose which one the connection is for.
- Setup time
- 1 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://api.clockify.me/api/v1
- Rate limits
- Per workspace with an API key: 30 requests an hour on Free; 20 a second on Trial, Basic, Standard and Pro; 50 a second on Enterprise.
Before you begin
- A Clockify account on any plan, the free one included. Every user can make an API key
- To manage webhooks, a workspace owner or admin role
- If your workspace has its own subdomain, sign in on that subdomain when you make the key: Clockify gives that workspace its own key
Get your credentials
Open Preferences in your profile settings
Sign in to Clockify, click your profile picture at the top right and choose Profile settings, then open Preferences and the Advanced tab. If your workspace has its own subdomain, sign in there first.
Preferences
Generate a new key
Click Manage API keys, then Generate new at the top right. The link above opens that page directly.
Manage API keys
No API keys yet
Generate a key to use the Clockify API.
Name the key and copy it
Enter a name such as PopMCP, click Generate, then Copy. Do this now: Clockify shows the key only once, and you cannot view it again after closing the window.
Manage API keys
Paste the key into PopMCP and choose the workspace
In PopMCP, paste the key into API key and connect. PopMCP checks it, finds your data region and lists the Clockify workspaces your login belongs to; choose the workspace this connection is for (each one goes into its own PopMCP workspace). The connection is then locked to it.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Clockify in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| API keysecret | In Clockify: Profile settings, Preferences, Advanced, Manage API keys, Generate new. Give it a name, choose Generate, then Copy. If your workspace has its own subdomain, sign in there first. Stored encrypted.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Clockify immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Clockify connection Verified with your workspace's name and records your name, email, the workspace's plan and its data region. Asking the AI how many hours were logged this week returns totals by project.
Troubleshooting
Clockify did not accept this API key
Why:
Fix: The key was deleted, or was not copied whole. Keys cannot be viewed twice, so generate a new one under Manage API keys and paste that.
Clockify refused this API key for that workspace
Why:
Fix: The workspace has its own subdomain and needs its own key. Sign in on the subdomain, then generate the key there.
Clockify is limiting requests
Why:
Fix: The free plan allows 30 API requests an hour per workspace. Wait for the hour to pass, or move the workspace to a paid plan, which allows 20 a second.
A report says the date range is too long
Why:
Fix: On the free plan a report covers at most 31 days. Ask for a shorter range, or for several ranges one after another.
A time entry is refused for a missing field
Why:
Fix: Your workspace can require a project, task, tag, description or custom field. Ask the AI to include it, or change the rule in the workspace settings.
The audit log report fails on a regional workspace
Why:
Fix: Clockify documents the audit log on one global address only, so it may not reach a workspace in a regional data center. The other reports do.
