Mercado Libre
Connect Mercado Libre to manage listings, stock, prices, orders, shipments, buyer questions, claims, promotions and ads, in every country you sell.
You sign in with your Mercado Libre account's main user, pick your country on Mercado Libre's page and approve access. Until PopMCP's own app is switched on, you first create a free app in the Mercado Libre DevCenter, add PopMCP's redirect URI, and enter its Client ID and Client Secret in PopMCP.
- Setup time
- 5 min
- Auth
- OAuth authorization
- API base URL
- https://api.mercadolibre.com
- Rate limits
- Per app and per endpoint. An app shows 18,000 requests an hour, and some endpoints publish their own limits: 100 a minute per seller on some, 500 a minute on stock and user product resources, and 1,000 a minute on Flex and Turbo. A 429 means wait a moment and try again.
Before you begin
- A Mercado Libre account you sell from, and its main user. A collaborator (operator) user cannot approve apps or create them.
- In Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Chile, the account's identity details filled in and validated: Mercado Libre asks for them before it lets you create an app.
- PopMCP's redirect URI from the connect form: https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/mercado-libre/callback
Get your credentials
Open the DevCenter
Go to developers.mercadolibre.com.ar/devcenter (use your own country's site if you prefer, such as developers.mercadolivre.com.br) and sign in with the account's main user. Click Create new application. The page may show this in Spanish or Portuguese as Crear nueva aplicación or Criar nova aplicação.
My applications
Apps created with this account.
You have no applications yet
Create one to get a Client ID and Client Secret.
In Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Chile, Mercado Libre asks for your validated identity details first.
Name the app and add the redirect URI
Enter a Name, which must be unique on Mercado Libre, such as PopMCP Tienda Norte, a Description of up to 150 characters, and a Logo. Under Redirect URIs paste https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/mercado-libre/callback exactly. Leave PKCE as it is: PopMCP works with it on or off.
Basic application details
Turn on the scopes
Under Scopes, tick Read, Write and offline access. Read is enough to look at things, Write lets PopMCP publish and change them when you allow it, and offline access keeps the connection working after the first six hours. Leave Topics and the notifications Callback URL empty: PopMCP does not need them. Click Save.
Authentication and security
Copy the Client ID and Client Secret
Mercado Libre takes you back to My applications. Open your app's menu and click Configure. Copy the Client ID, which is all numbers, and the Client Secret. If you ever need a new secret, use Schedule renewal so the old one keeps working until you have updated PopMCP.
Application settings
- Client ID
- 1234567890123456
- Client Secret
- Hidden until you choose Show
Keep the Client Secret private. Renew now ends the old secret at once; Schedule renewal keeps both working for a time.
Enter both in PopMCP and sign in
Paste the numbers into Client ID and the secret into Client Secret, then click Sign in with Mercado Libre. On Mercado Libre's page, choose your country and click Confirm, sign in with the main user, and approve access.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Mercado Libre in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Client IDtext | Only needed to use your own app. Sign in with the account's main user at developers.mercadolibre.com.ar/devcenter and choose Create application (Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Chile ask for your validated identity details first). Fill in the name and description, paste the redirect URI shown here, and under Scopes tick Read, Write and offline access. Save, then copy the Client ID and Client Secret from the app's Configure page. |
| Client Secretsecret | On the app's Configure page in the DevCenter. Stored encrypted and used only on our server.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/mercado-libre/callbackPaste this into Redirect URIs on your app in the Mercado Libre DevCenter. It must match exactly, or Mercado Libre refuses the sign-in.
PopMCP verifies the credential against Mercado Libre immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Permissions PopMCP requests
These are the scopes sent to Mercado Libre at authorization time.
| Scope | Why PopMCP asks for it |
|---|---|
| offline_access | Issues the refresh token that keeps a connection working after the access token's six hours. Without it PopMCP stops the sign-in and says so. |
| read | Reads listings, orders, shipments, questions, messages, claims, promotions, ads, metrics and billing. |
| write | Publishes and changes listings, prices and stock, answers questions, sends messages, handles claims and joins promotions. Without it, write tools answer with a refusal from Mercado Libre. |
Verify it worked
PopMCP shows Mercado Libre as Connected under your nickname and site, such as TIENDA NORTE (MLA), and mercado_libre_get_account_overview returns your reputation, active listings and unanswered questions.
Troubleshooting
"Sorry, the application cannot connect to your account"
Why: The redirect URI on the app differs from PopMCP's by a character, you signed in with a collaborator, or the account has pending details or restrictions.
Fix: Set **Redirect URIs** to `https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/mercado-libre/callback` on the app, sign in with the account's main user, and check the account has no pending identity details in Mercado Libre. Then connect again.
"That sign-in was a collaborator"
Why: Mercado Libre lets only an account's main user approve apps. Operators and collaborators get invalid_operator_user_id.
Fix: Sign out of Mercado Libre, sign in with the main user, then connect again.
"Mercado Libre did not accept the app's Client ID and Client Secret"
Why: One was mistyped, or the secret was renewed after you copied it.
Fix: Copy both again from your app's **Configure** page in the DevCenter, then connect again.
"Issued no refresh token"
Why: Offline access is not ticked on the app.
Fix: Under **Scopes** on your app, tick **Offline access**, save, then connect again.
Reads work but anything that changes something answers 403
Why: **Write** is not ticked on your app, or the connection is read-only in PopMCP.
Fix: Tick **Write** under **Scopes** and connect again, and allow write actions on the connection in PopMCP.
A connection stops working after months of no use, or after a password change
Why: Mercado Libre ends a sign-in when the seller changes their password, removes the app or renews the secret at once, or after 4 months with no calls.
Fix: Reconnect Mercado Libre from PopMCP to sign in again.
Tools that start mercado_libre_gs_ answer 403
Why: Those are for Global Selling (cross-border) sellers, and this account sells on one country's site.
Fix: Use the same tool without gs_, such as mercado_libre_get_item.
