Optimizely
Connect Optimizely to manage feature flags and rules, read experiment results, and start or pause tests across your projects.
You paste one value into PopMCP: a personal access token, made in Optimizely under Profile, API Access. You then choose one project or all of them. Data Platform, CMS and Content Marketing Platform use their own credentials, which are optional and go under More options.

Get your credentials
Open API Access in your profile
Sign in to Optimizely, open your Profile and choose the API Access tab. The link goes straight there.
API Access
No personal access tokens yet
Generate a token to use the Optimizely REST APIs.
Name the token and copy it
Click Generate New Token, enter a name such as PopMCP, click Create, then copy the token. Do this now: once you leave the API Access tab, Optimizely no longer shows it.
API Access
Paste the token into PopMCP and choose the project
In PopMCP, paste the token into Personal access token and connect. PopMCP checks it and lists your projects. Choose one project, and the connection is locked to it, or choose All projects so the AI can work across the account and names the project each time. An account with one project skips that choice.
Optional: add your other Optimizely products
Open More options in the same form. For Data Platform, paste the Private key from Settings, APIs: PopMCP finds your region. For CMS (SaaS), go to Settings, API Keys, click Create API Key and paste its Client ID and Secret. For Content Marketing Platform, go to Admin, Apps and Webhooks, click Register App and paste its client ID and client secret. If you only use one of these products, leave the token empty.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Optimizely in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Personal access tokensecret | In Optimizely: Profile, API Access, Generate New Token. Give it a name, choose Create, then copy it. Needed for Feature and Web Experimentation. Stored encrypted.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
| Data Platform private keysecret | In Optimizely Data Platform: Settings, APIs. Use the Private key, not the Public key or Tracker ID. Your region is found for you.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
| CMS client IDtext | In your CMS: Settings, API Keys, Create API Key. It shows a Client ID and a Secret once. |
| CMS secretsecret | Goes with the CMS client IDEncrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
| Content Marketing Platform client IDtext | In Content Marketing Platform: Admin, Apps and Webhooks, Register App. It gives you a client ID and a client secret. |
| Content Marketing Platform client secretsecret | Goes with the client ID aboveEncrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Optimizely immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Optimizely connection Verified with your project's name and records your name, email and account. For a Data Platform key it also records the region. Asking the AI to list your projects, or the flags in one, returns them.
Troubleshooting
Optimizely did not accept this personal access token
Why:
Fix: The token was revoked or was not copied whole. Tokens cannot be viewed twice, so generate a new one under Profile, API Access and paste that.
This token can no longer open the project
Why:
Fix: You were removed from the project, or it was archived. Ask an administrator to add you back, or connect another project.
Optimizely Data Platform did not accept this key
Why:
Fix: It has to be the Private key from Settings, APIs in Data Platform. The Public key, also called the Tracker ID, can only send data.
CMS or Content Marketing Platform did not accept this client id and secret
Why:
Fix: Copy both again, or create a new API key or app. Each pair has to be complete.
A flag tool answers not found
Why:
Fix: Flags only exist in Feature Experimentation projects, and are named by key rather than name. Check that is_flags_enabled is true on the project, and list the flags to see their keys.
Optimizely is limiting requests
Why:
Fix: The main API allows 100 requests a minute, 20 for results. The Flags API allows 120 a minute and 2 a second. Wait a minute and try again.
