Brandwatch
Connect Brandwatch to read social listening data, track brand mentions and sentiment, and manage saved searches, tags and alerts.
You enter the username and password of a Brandwatch user. PopMCP swaps them for an access token straight away and keeps only the token. Then you choose one project or all of them. A token you already have can go in instead.
Paid plan required before this connector works
No one reviews you, but you need a Brandwatch Consumer Research subscription, which its site offers through a demo with sales, and a user with the Regular or Admin role.
- Typical wait
- None on an account you already have. Otherwise it depends on Brandwatch's sales team.
- Cost
- PopMCP adds nothing. Ask your Brandwatch account manager about pricing and whether your package includes API access.
- Blocked until approved
- Without a Regular or Admin user nothing connects. Uploading your own documents and the Analysis API need those features on your account, and their tools answer with an error until they are.
- Works meanwhile
- Brandwatch's own app works on its own. Nothing in PopMCP works until the user is accepted.
Where to apply: Ask your Brandwatch account manager whether your package includes the API. Then have a Brandwatch admin invite a user in Admin settings, Users and Clients.
- By default Brandwatch allows 30 API calls in any 10 minutes for your whole company, counting other tools that use the API.
- The access token lasts a year by default. Connect again when it ends.
- Brandwatch's data packs can hold back X, LinkedIn and news text from the API even when you can see it in the app.
- Setup time
- 3 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://api.brandwatch.com
- Rate limits
- Per Brandwatch client, on a rolling window: 30 calls in any 10 minutes by default, then HTTP 429. Each answer reports x-rate-limit and x-rate-limit-used.
Before you begin
- A Brandwatch Consumer Research subscription
- A Brandwatch user with the Regular or Admin role. Use a separate user made for this rather than your own login
Get your credentials
Set up a separate Brandwatch user
PopMCP asks for a Brandwatch password, so give it a user made for this and not your own login. A Brandwatch admin opens Admin settings, then Users and Clients, and invites a new user with the Regular or Admin role. Brandwatch emails that address a link to set a name and password. The AI can reach whatever this user can open, so keep its access to what the AI should see.
Invite a user
Regular and Admin users can use the Brandwatch API.
This view is a simplified sketch: the labels on your page may differ slightly.
Enter the username and password in PopMCP
In PopMCP, enter that user's email as Brandwatch username and its Brandwatch password, then connect. PopMCP sends them to Brandwatch once to get an access token, and does not keep the password. If the login belongs to several Brandwatch organizations, open More options and add the Organization client ID, which Brandwatch support can give you.
Choose a project
PopMCP lists the projects this user can open. Choose one to hold the connection to it, or choose All projects to let the AI name the project each time. Each choice goes in its own PopMCP workspace.
Prefer not to enter a password?
If you already have an access token from Brandwatch's /oauth/token call, open More options, paste it into Access token, and leave the username and password empty.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Brandwatch in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Brandwatch usernametext | The email address this user signs in to Brandwatch with. |
| Brandwatch passwordsecret | Used once to get an access token, then thrown away. If your company signs in through single sign-on, ask your admin for a separate user with its own password.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
| Organization client IDtext | For a login that switches between Brandwatch organizations. Brandwatch support gives you this ID. |
| Access tokensecret | Already have a token from Brandwatch's /oauth/token call? Paste it here and leave the username and password empty.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Brandwatch immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Brandwatch connection Verified with your project or company name, and notes your rate limit and the date the token ends. Asking the AI who is connected returns the user, role and client.
Troubleshooting
Brandwatch did not accept that username and password
Why:
Fix: Check both, and that the user can sign in at app.brandwatch.com. If the login belongs to several organizations, add the organization's client ID under More options. A login that uses single sign-on may have no password to use here, so ask your Brandwatch admin for a separate user.
Brandwatch refused this user
Why:
Fix: Only Regular and Admin users can use the API. Ask your Brandwatch admin to change the role.
This user has no projects yet
Why:
Fix: Ask your Brandwatch admin to share a project with this user, or create one in Brandwatch, then connect again.
Brandwatch no longer accepts this connection's token
Why:
Fix: Tokens last a year by default, and PopMCP does not keep the password that could renew one. Connect Brandwatch again with the username and password.
Brandwatch's rate limit is used up
Why:
Fix: By default Brandwatch allows 30 API calls in any 10 minutes for your whole company, counting other tools that use the API. Wait a few minutes. Ask your account manager about a higher limit if this happens often.
X or LinkedIn mentions have no text
Why:
Fix: That is Brandwatch's licensing. X posts come without text or author, and LinkedIn without text. Online news stops at 256 characters. The link and metadata are still there.
A new tag or category does not show on older mentions
Why:
Fix: They only reach new mentions at first. Ask the AI to backfill the tag or category from a date.
