- Stability AI allows 150 requests in any 10 seconds. Over that it answers 429 and blocks the key for 60 seconds. Results of longer jobs should be checked at most once every 10 seconds, which PopMCP does for you.
Before you begin
- A Stability AI account. Signing up with a Google account gives you 25 free credits
- Credits on the account, if your AI will make anything. One credit is one US cent, and you buy them on the Billing page. Checking your balance needs no credits
Get your credentials
Open your API keys in Stability AI
Sign in to Stability AI and open platform.stability.ai/dashboard/api-keys. A key reaches everything on its account and has no permission options, so sign in to the account whose credits you want to spend.
Create a key for PopMCP and copy it
You could copy a key you already have. A new one is better, because you can later delete it without touching your other apps. Create a key, then copy it rather than retyping it, since some characters look alike.

Paste the key into PopMCP
In PopMCP, paste the key into API key and connect. PopMCP checks it by reading your account and credit balance from Stability AI, which costs nothing. New connections start read-only, so your AI can check your balance and fetch finished results, but cannot make anything or spend credits until an owner or admin allows write actions.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Stability AI in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:

PopMCP verifies the credential against Stability AI immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Stability AI connection Verified, labels it with your account email and shows your credit balance. Asking the AI how many Stability AI credits you have returns the real number at no cost.
Troubleshooting
"Stability AI did not accept this API key..."
Why: The key was copied incompletely or has been deleted.
Fix: Open platform.stability.ai/dashboard/api-keys and copy a key that is still active, or create a new one.
The AI says it cannot make an image
Why: The connection is read-only, which is how new connections start.
Fix: An owner or admin can allow write actions on the connection in PopMCP.
The AI says the account is out of credits
Why: Stability AI answered 402, because the balance is too low for that call. Nothing was charged.
Fix: Buy credits at platform.stability.ai/dashboard/billing, then try again.
A download link says the file has expired
Why: PopMCP keeps each finished file for one hour, then deletes it.
Fix: Save files when you get them. A job that gave a generation id can be fetched again for 24 hours. Anything else needs to be made again, which spends credits.
The AI says it cannot read a file on my computer
Why: PopMCP runs on a server, so a path on your computer means nothing to it.
Fix: Give your AI a public link to the file, a download link from an earlier result, or the file as base64. Files can be up to 10 MiB.
The result came back blurred
Why: Stability AI's content moderation filtered the result. The answer shows finish_reason CONTENT_FILTERED.
Fix: Change the prompt and try again.
