If PopMCP shows Sign in with Sage with no fields, click it and sign in with your Sage Accounting login. If it asks for a Client ID and Client Secret, create a free app in Sage's developer portal with PopMCP's callback URL, enter its details, then sign in the same way. This is Sage Accounting only: Sage 50, Sage 200 and Sage Intacct are separate products and are not covered.

1,296,000 requests a day and 150 at once, counted per app. Going over answers 429, which Sage says can last up to 24 hours when an app is well over its limit.

Before you begin

  • A Sage Accounting login with an active trial or subscription on the business you want to connect. Sage's documents list its API mainly for the UK, Ireland and Canada.
  • To use your own app: a free Sage developer account at developerselfservice.sageone.com, and PopMCP's callback URL from the connect form: https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/sage/callback
  • Your developer login and your Sage Accounting login are separate. The developer login makes the app. The Sage Accounting login approves access, and it is the one that can open a business.

Get your credentials

Check whether you need an app at all

Open Sage in PopMCP. If you see Sign in with Sage and no fields, click it, skip to the last two steps, and sign in with your Sage Accounting login. If the form asks for a Client ID and Client Secret, carry on.

Sign in to Sage's developer portal

Go to developerselfservice.sageone.com and sign in, or sign up with GitHub or an email address. It is free. If you use an email address, Sage sends a link to confirm it.

Open this screen →

Create an app with PopMCP's callback URL

Click Create App. Enter a name such as PopMCP under App Name and your address under Email Address. Under Callback URLs paste https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/sage/callback exactly: Sage treats capital letters as different. Homepage URL is optional. Click Save.

Sign in with your Sage Accounting login

Enter the Client ID and Client Secret in PopMCP and click Sign in with Sage. On Sage's page choose your business's country, sign in with the login you use for Sage Accounting, not your developer login, and allow access.

Choose your businesses

PopMCP lists every business that login can open. Tick the ones to connect and choose a workspace for each. Each becomes its own connection, so you can have an AI client work in one business without touching the others.

Connect in PopMCP

Open your workspace, choose Sage in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:

FieldWhat to enter
Client IDtextOnly needed to use your own app. Sign in at developerselfservice.sageone.com, click Create App, give it a name and your email, paste the Callback URL shown here, and click Save. Then open the app and click Show next to Client ID and Client Secret.
Client SecretsecretOn the same page as the Client ID. Stored encrypted and used only on our server.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again.
Callback URL
https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/sage/callback

Paste this into Callback URLs on your app at developerselfservice.sageone.com. It must match exactly, including capital letters, or Sage refuses the sign-in.

PopMCP verifies the credential against Sage immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.

Permissions PopMCP requests

These are the scopes sent to Sage at authorization time.

ScopeWhy PopMCP asks for it
full_accessAlso creates, changes and deletes records, always within the roles that user has in Sage. Asked for when write actions are allowed, and by your own app. Sage takes one of the two.

Verify it worked

PopMCP shows Sage as Connected under your business's name, and sage_business_overview returns the business with its ledger accounts, tax rates and bank accounts.

Troubleshooting

Sage shows an error page instead of asking for access

Why: PopMCP's callback URL is not on your app, or differs by a character. Sage treats capital letters as different.

Fix: On your app's page set **Callback URLs** to include `https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/sage/callback` and connect again.

"This Sage sign-in has no Sage Accounting business", or an error saying the email is already in use

Why: You signed in with your Sage developer login, which is not linked to a business, or chose a country that does not match your business.

Fix: Connect again with the login you use for Sage Accounting. If Sage does not offer the country page, visit `https://www.sageone.com/?clear` to clear Sage's country choice, then try again.

"Sage did not accept the app's Client ID and Client Secret"

Why: A value was mistyped or copied partly.

Fix: Click **Show** on your app's page, copy both values again, and connect again.

"Sage's sign-in code expired or was already used"

Why: Sage's code lasts 60 seconds and works once.

Fix: Connect again from the start.

"This business has no active Sage subscription"

Why: The business's trial ended or its subscription was cancelled.

Fix: Reactivate it in Sage Accounting, or choose another business, then connect again.

"Sage no longer accepts this sign-in"

Why: Sage ends a sign-in after 31 days without use, or when access is removed in Sage. A new sign-in to the same app by the same user can also replace the old one.

Fix: Connect Sage again. Your connections from one sign-in renew together.

A tool answers that the Sage user does not have the role

Why: Calls run as the Sage user who connected, with that user's roles. A restricted user cannot delete, and a read-only user cannot write.

Fix: A business owner can change the role in Sage under Settings, Manage Users. Or connect as a user who has it.

A tool answers that Sage does not offer it on your plan

Why: Some of Sage's API is not on every plan. Creating purchase invoices, products, services and quotes is not on Sage Accounting Start, and stock needs Plus.

Fix: Do it another way, or move to a plan that includes it. sage_describe_tool lists the plans for each tool.

My Sage 50, Sage 200 or Sage Intacct data does not appear

Why: Those are separate products with their own APIs. This connector is for Sage Accounting.

Fix: Use this connector with a Sage Accounting business only.
