Expensify
Connect Expensify to read reports and card transactions, export files, create expenses, and manage workspaces, tags and members.
You paste two values into PopMCP: the partnerUserID and partnerUserSecret shown on Expensify's integrations page while you are signed in. There is no app to register.
- Setup time
- 1 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://integrations.expensify.com/Integration-Server/ExpensifyIntegrations
- Rate limits
- 5 requests every 10 seconds and 20 requests every 60 seconds. Above that Expensify answers 429.
Before you begin
- An Expensify account. Sign in as the person whose access the AI should have, because the connection acts as that account
- To change a workspace, a workspace admin role. To use the card tools, a domain admin role
- To create reports or expenses in someone else's account, a request to concierge@expensify.com first, because Expensify has to enable it. Everything else works without asking
Get your credentials
Sign in and open the integrations page
Open the Expensify integrations page. If you are not signed in, Expensify asks you to sign in first and then brings you back. Use the account whose access the AI should have.
Copy the partnerUserID and partnerUserSecret
The page generates a pair of credentials and shows them to you. Copy both now and keep them somewhere safe: Expensify shows them only once. If you have lost the secret, open the page again for a new pair.
Integrations
Paste both into PopMCP
In PopMCP, paste them into partnerUserID and partnerUserSecret and connect. PopMCP checks them by reading your workspace list and shows how many workspaces the account can reach. New connections start read-only.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Expensify in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| partnerUserIDtext | Shown on expensify.com/tools/integrations once you are signed in. |
| partnerUserSecretsecret | Shown next to it, and only once. Stored encrypted and used only on our servers.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Expensify immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the Expensify connection Verified, labelled with your partnerUserID and the number of workspaces it can reach. Asking the AI to list your Expensify workspaces returns their names, types and your role on each.
Troubleshooting
Expensify did not accept these details
Why:
Fix: A value was not copied whole, or you pasted your sign-in email instead of the partnerUserID. Open expensify.com/tools/integrations for a new pair and paste both values.
Not authorized to authenticate as user
Why:
Fix: Expensify has not enabled acting on someone else's account for you. Ask concierge@expensify.com to enable it, and make sure you are a domain and workspace admin. Retrying will not help.
Expensify is limiting requests
Why:
Fix: An account can send 5 requests every 10 seconds and 20 every 60 seconds. Wait a minute, then ask for one thing at a time. Too many calls at once can also look like a credentials error, so try again before making a new pair.
A date range is refused
Why:
Fix: One range can cover at most a year, and a start date more than a year ago needs an end date. Ask for a shorter range, or several in turn.
A card tool is refused
Why:
Fix: Card tools need the credentials of a domain admin on that domain. Make a pair while signed in as a domain admin and reconnect.
A PDF or Excel file is too large to return
Why:
Fix: Files in those formats come back only when small. Export as CSV to read it in chat, or have Expensify email a link to the file, which is a write action.
