You paste one API access token from Bold Account Center into PopMCP. Bold gives each store its own token, so PopMCP reads the shop from the token and the connection is locked to that shop.

About 10 requests a second per API, per user. Over that, Bold answers 429 and asks you to wait one second. The store's platform can set its own limits too.

Before you begin

  • A Bold Account Center login for the organization the shop belongs to. Sign up at account.boldcommerce.com if you do not have one.
  • The Bold products you want the AI to use already set up on the shop. A tool for a product the shop does not have answers that nothing was found.
  • A decision on what the AI may change: View scopes for a look-only connection, Manage scopes for the areas it should edit.

Get your credentials

Open API access tokens

Sign in to Bold Account Center, choose API access tokens in the left-hand menu, then click Create API access token.

Create API access token

This view is a simplified sketch: the labels on your page may differ slightly.

Name it and tick the scopes

Enter a name such as PopMCP in API access token name, then tick the scopes. For every tool to work, tick all of them under Core, Checkout, Subscriptions and Price Rules. For a look-only connection, tick only the View scopes. Always include Shops read, because it tells PopMCP which shop the token is for. Click Create.

Give PopMCP its own token so you can remove it without breaking other integrations.

Copy the API access token

A dialog shows a shared secret and the API access token. Copy the API access token. PopMCP does not need the shared secret. Both disappear when you close the dialog, so copy the token before you click Done.

Paste the token into PopMCP

In PopMCP, paste the token into API access token and click Connect Bold Commerce. PopMCP asks Bold which shop the token belongs to and shows the connection under that shop's name.

Connect in PopMCP

Open your workspace, choose Bold Commerce in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:

FieldWhat to enter
API access tokensecretIn Bold Account Center: API access tokens, Create API access token. Name it, tick the scopes, choose Create, then copy the API access token, not the shared secret. Stored encrypted.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again.

PopMCP verifies the credential against Bold Commerce immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.

Verify it worked

PopMCP shows Bold Commerce as Verified under your shop's name. Asking the AI which shop it is connected to, or how many subscriptions are active, returns real answers.

Troubleshooting

Bold did not accept this API access token

Why: Bold answered 401: the token was copied incompletely, or it has been deleted.

Fix: Make a new token in Bold Account Center under API access tokens, since Bold shows each one only once, and paste it again.

Bold refused this token

Why: Bold answered 403 when PopMCP asked which shop the token belongs to. The token most likely has no Shops read scope.

Fix: Make a new token that includes Shops read, and connect again.

Bold could not find a shop for this token

Why: Bold answered 404 for the token's shop.

Fix: Check in Bold Account Center that the shop is connected to your organization, then make the token again.

A tool answers that the token probably lacks a scope

Why: The token was made without that scope. PopMCP names the scope in the answer.

Fix: Make a new token with that scope added, then reconnect Bold Commerce with it.

A tool says Bold found nothing with that id

Why: The id belongs to another list, or the shop does not have that Bold product. Bold keeps separate customer lists with different ids for the shop and for Subscriptions.

Fix: Get the id from the matching list tool, such as bold_list_subscription_customers for subscription tools.

Bold would not open a checkout order

Why: Bold refused to open that order by its public id, which may be wrong.

Fix: Check the public_order_id, which comes from bold_initialize_order or the store order's bold_cashier_public_order_id note attribute.
