Frase
Connect Frase to research topics, build briefs, write and score articles, audit pages, track AI search visibility, and publish to your site.
Nothing is typed into PopMCP. You click Authorize with Frase, sign in to Frase and approve PopMCP on the screen Frase shows. PopMCP is already a registered Frase client, so there is no API key, developer app or callback URL to set up. If you prefer a key, one from Settings, API Keys in Frase can be pasted under More options instead.

Before you begin
- A Frase account. Frase says API keys and AI connections work on every plan, including its free trial. Start one at signin-next.frase.io/sign-up if you have none
- Pop-up blockers must allow the Frase sign-in window to open
- Only if the AI should write, publish or spend credits: an owner or admin in PopMCP to allow write actions
Get your credentials
Start the connection from PopMCP
Open the Frase connector in PopMCP and click Authorize with Frase. There are no fields to fill in: no API key, no developer app and nothing to register.
Sign in to Frase in the pop-up
The sign-in window opens on next.frase.io. Sign in with the Frase account the AI should work in, with your email, single sign-on or the other options Frase offers.
Approve PopMCP
Frase shows a screen that says what you are approving, naming PopMCP. Approve it, and the window closes by itself.
Check the connection
The Frase card in PopMCP reads Connected, with your organization's name and plan. Every Frase endpoint is a tool. frase_site_overview is a good first call, and frase_research_and_brief and frase_generate_article do the long jobs in one call. Writing, publishing and anything that spends credits wait until an owner or admin allows write actions in PopMCP.

Optional: use an API key instead
Only if you prefer a key to signing in. In Frase, open Settings, then API Keys, and create a key. Back in PopMCP, open More options on the Frase connector and paste it into Frase API key (instead of signing in). It starts with sk_live_ or sk_test_. A key can carry fewer permissions than a sign-in, so a call it lacks a permission for names the scope it needs.
API Keys
Illustration only. Your Frase screen may look different. Copy the whole key: it starts with sk_live_ or sk_test_.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose Frase in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| How you connectpreset | Click Authorize, sign in to Frase and approve. There is nothing to copy or paste. |
| Frase API key (instead of signing in)secret | Only if you prefer a key: create one under Settings, API Keys in Frase and paste it here, and the sign-in step is skipped.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against Frase immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Permissions PopMCP requests
These are the scopes sent to Frase at authorization time.
| Scope | Why PopMCP asks for it |
|---|---|
| mcp:full | The one permission Frase offers for a sign-in. What the AI may actually do is still limited by PopMCP: write actions stay off until an owner or admin allows them, and new connections start read-only. |
Verify it worked
The Frase card in PopMCP shows Connected with your organization's name. Asking the AI for the connection profile (frase_connection_profile) names the organization and plan, and asking for an overview of your site (frase_site_overview) returns its health and next actions rather than an authorization error.
Troubleshooting
The sign-in window never opens
Why: A pop-up blocker is stopping the Frase sign-in window.
Fix: Allow pop-ups for PopMCP in your browser and click Authorize with Frase again.
"Your Frase sign-in has ended..."
Why: Frase no longer honours the sign-in, for example because it was revoked.
Fix: Reconnect Frase in PopMCP: one click on Authorize with Frase and approve. Or connect with an API key.
"Frase did not accept that API key"
Why: The key was copied in part, or it was revoked under Settings, API Keys.
Fix: Create a new key under Settings, API Keys, copy all of it (it starts with sk_live_ or sk_test_) and paste it again.
The AI says a scope is missing
Why: The API key was made without that permission. Keys have their own scopes, such as read:content and write:content.
Fix: Create a key that has the scope named in the message, or reconnect Frase by signing in.
The AI says an allowance is used up
Why: A task uses the same plan credits as in the app, and that pool is empty, or the month's API budget is spent.
Fix: Ask the AI for `frase_get_usage`, which shows what is left and when it refills, or upgrade in Frase. Waiting a few minutes will not help.
The AI says the rate limit is reached
Why: Frase limits requests per minute and per hour by plan. The hourly limit can take up to an hour to clear.
Fix: Wait for the time Frase names, then ask again.
The AI asks which site you mean
Why: A request needs a site and your organization has several.
Fix: Tell it the site's name or domain. A connection reaches every site in the organization.
Research or an article seems stuck
Why: Frase runs these in the background, and they can take longer than one tool call.
Fix: Ask the AI to carry on. The tool says how to pick up the same job, which does not start another one or use another credit.
