BrightLocal
Connect BrightLocal to track local rankings and search grids, monitor reviews and citations, and manage client locations and listings.
You paste one value into PopMCP: the API key from the API page in your BrightLocal account menu.
Paid plan required before this connector works
No one reviews you, but BrightLocal's help center says an API key needs an active Track, Manage or Grow plan. The key itself is self-serve on the API page of your account.
- Typical wait
- None on an active plan.
- Cost
- PopMCP adds nothing. Location and report tools work within your BrightLocal plan. The Data API lookups for rankings, search volume, listings and reviews are charged per request by BrightLocal: a trial key has 250 free test requests, and after that BrightLocal asks for a custom agreement.
- Blocked until approved
- Without an active plan the key is refused and nothing connects. Without a Data API agreement, the paid lookups stop once the trial requests are used, and everything else keeps working. Local AI Visibility tools answer with an error on an account that does not have it.
- Works meanwhile
- BrightLocal's own app works on its own. Nothing in PopMCP works until the key is accepted.
Where to apply: Sign in to BrightLocal, open your account menu at the top right and choose API. Click Create API Key if there is none. For more Data API requests, contact BrightLocal's API team.
- Generate New API Key stops the old key straight away, so update every tool that uses it.
- Running a search grid, preparing AI recommendations and confirming a citation campaign spend credits, which are bought in your BrightLocal account.
- Setup time
- 1 min
- Auth
- API credentials
- API base URL
- https://api.brightlocal.com
- Rate limits
- Management APIs: 300 GET and 100 POST, PUT or DELETE requests a minute. Data APIs: 600 GET and 500 POST requests a minute.
Before you begin
- An active BrightLocal plan. BrightLocal's help center says the key needs a Track, Manage or Grow plan
- A BrightLocal sign-in that can open the API page
- Only for the paid rankings, search volume, listing and review lookups: a trial key has 250 free test requests, and after that BrightLocal asks for a custom agreement
Get your credentials
Open the API page in BrightLocal
Sign in to BrightLocal, open your account menu at the top right, and choose API.
API
No API key yet
Create a key to use the BrightLocal API.
Copy your API key
If a key is already there, copy it. If not, click Create API Key. Do not click Generate New API Key if another tool uses your key: the old key stops working straight away.
API
Paste it into PopMCP
In PopMCP, paste the key into API key and connect. PopMCP checks it with BrightLocal and shows how many locations it found.
Connect in PopMCP
Open your workspace, choose BrightLocal in the marketplace, and fill in the connect dialog:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| API keysecret | In BrightLocal open your account menu at the top right, then API, and copy the key. Stored encrypted and used only on our servers.Encrypted with AES-256-GCM on save and never shown again. |
PopMCP verifies the credential against BrightLocal immediately. On success the connection flips to Verified and its MCP tools are provisioned.
Verify it worked
PopMCP marks the BrightLocal connection Verified and shows how many locations it found. Asking the AI to list your locations returns them with their ids.
Troubleshooting
BrightLocal did not accept this API key
Why:
Fix: Copy the current key from the API page of your account. Generating a new key stops the old one working, and the account needs an active plan.
The key only works with BrightLocal's older API
Why:
Fix: PopMCP says so when it connects. Batches, review jobs and Citation Tracker work, but locations and reports do not. Make a new key on the API page and reconnect.
Rankings, listing or review lookups are refused and everything else works
Why:
Fix: These use BrightLocal's paid Data APIs. Once a trial key's 250 test requests are used, contact BrightLocal's API team about an agreement.
Not enough credits
Why:
Fix: Credits are bought in your BrightLocal account. Ask the AI to read your balances before it runs a search grid or confirms a citation campaign.
A report has no results yet
Why:
Fix: BrightLocal runs reports in the background. Ask again later, or ask the AI to read the latest run.
BrightLocal says there are too many requests
Why:
Fix: BrightLocal allows 300 reads and 100 changes a minute, and 600 reads and 500 POST requests on the Data APIs. Wait a minute and try again.
