# WhatChimp setup for PopMCP

Two values go into PopMCP: the key shown under Your API key in WhatChimp's API Developer Console, and the phone_number_id of your connected WhatsApp number.

- Auth: API credentials
- Setup time: 5 min
- API base URL: https://app.whatchimp.com/api/v1
- Credentials screen: https://app.whatchimp.com/api/developer/console
- Provider docs: https://help.whatchimp.com/docs/whatchimp-apis

## Before you begin

- A WhatChimp account at app.whatchimp.com
- A WhatsApp Business number already connected through Connect Account, because the Phone Number ID does not exist until a number is linked
- Owner or admin access, since only those roles can open Settings, API Developer Console

## Get your credentials

### 1. Open the API Developer Console

Sign in at app.whatchimp.com, click Settings in the left sidebar, and choose API Developer Console.

Screen: https://app.whatchimp.com/api/developer/console

### 2. Copy your API key

Find Your API key at the top of the console and click Copy. Click Generate API key only if no key exists yet or the current one has leaked.

### 3. Read the Phone Number ID from the endpoint generator

Scroll to Send Message and open Generate API End-point: Send Template Message. Pick your number in the WhatsApp Account dropdown, then copy the digits after `phone_number_id=` in the generated URL.

### 4. Paste both values into PopMCP

Open the WhatChimp connector in PopMCP, paste the key into API token and the digits into Phone Number ID, then save.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- API token (apiToken) [required]: In WhatChimp open Dashboard → Settings → Developer / API (or the API section of your account) and copy your API token. It's sent as the apiToken query parameter and stored encrypted; used server-side only.
- Phone Number ID (phoneNumberId) [required]: WhatChimp's internal ID for your connected WhatsApp number. Find it in your WhatChimp account settings next to the connected number. It's required by almost every endpoint and added to your calls automatically. (If you connect more than one number, pick the one you'll use most; the AI can target another by passing phone_number_id explicitly.)

## Verify

PopMCP marks WhatChimp as Connected and a read call such as fetching message status returns a JSON body with status 1 rather than an error object.

## Troubleshooting

### Every call comes back with status 0 and an authentication message

Cause: The apiToken value is wrong, or the key was regenerated in the console after you saved it in PopMCP.

Fix: Reopen Settings, API Developer Console, copy the key under Your API key, and re-save it in PopMCP.

### Subscriber limit has been exceeded

Cause: Your WhatChimp plan's subscriber cap is full. This is a plan limit rather than an auth failure.

Fix: Upgrade the WhatChimp plan or delete inactive subscribers in Subscriber Manager.

### Plain text messages are rejected

Cause: WhatsApp only allows free-form text inside the 24-hour customer service window.

Fix: Send a Meta-approved template instead and check its approval state under Bot Manager, Message Template.

### Calls fail with an unknown phone number

Cause: The Phone Number ID belongs to a different WhatChimp account, or the number was disconnected.

Fix: Re-select the number in the console's Send Message generator and copy phone_number_id from the freshly built URL.

### The WhatsApp Account dropdown is empty

Cause: No WhatsApp Business number is linked to the account yet.

Fix: Open Connect Account and finish the Embedded Signup flow, then return to the console.
