# Upfluence setup for PopMCP

You paste two values into PopMCP: the Client ID and Client secret you create under Settings, then API access, in the Upfluence app.

- Auth: API credentials
- Setup time: 2 min
- API base URL: https://api.upfluence.co/v1
- Credentials screen: https://software.upfluence.co/
- Provider docs: https://help.upfluence.co/en/articles/16005099-how-to-generate-and-manage-your-api-client-credentials

## Approval required before this works

No one reviews you and the credentials are self-serve, but Upfluence's help center says API access is purchased in tokens, which each call uses. Tokens come through your Upfluence account manager.

- Typical wait: However long your account manager takes. Creating the credentials themselves takes a minute.
- Cost: Paid in Upfluence API tokens from one shared balance: 1 token per 500 search results, per 5 profiles, per audience, per 10 posts added to a stream, per 10 stream posts returned and per 100 stream analytics updates. Workflow data is free. Upfluence's Token Simulator at tokens.upfluence.com estimates a query. PopMCP adds nothing to this.
- Blocked until approved: Searches, profiles, audiences and stream data once the balance runs out, when Upfluence answers 402. Upfluence's docs say sign-in and most endpoints can work on any account, including trials, but the balance calls need an API account.
- Works meanwhile: Create the credentials under Settings, then API access, and connect them in PopMCP. PopMCP shows your token balance when Upfluence shares it, and says so when the account is not set up for the API.

## Before you begin

- An Upfluence account that can open Settings, then API access. Upfluence does not say which roles or plans see this tab, so if it is missing, ask your account manager
- Upfluence API tokens for data calls. Upfluence's help center says API access is purchased in tokens, through your account manager at success@upfluence.com or the live chat

## Get your credentials

### 1. Open API access in Upfluence

Sign in to Upfluence, go to Settings and open the API access tab. It lists any credentials you already have, with their name, client ID, creation date and last-used date.

Screen: https://software.upfluence.co/

### 2. Create the credentials and copy both values

Click Create client credentials, enter a Credential name such as PopMCP, and click Create credentials. Use the copy icons to copy the client ID and client secret. The secret is shown only once, so copy it before you close the window. If you lose it, create new credentials.

### 3. Paste both into PopMCP

In PopMCP, paste the values into Client ID and Client secret and connect. PopMCP gets an access token from Upfluence, reads your lists, and shows your token balance when Upfluence shares it. Credentials belong to one account, so there is nothing else to choose.

### 4. Decide which AI clients may use it

New connections start read-only, but read-only will not stop spending here. Searches, profiles and audiences are reads, so they stay available and use your Upfluence API tokens. Tick Upfluence on the PopMCP consent screen only for AI clients that should spend them. Editing lists, creating streams and requesting payments wait until an owner or admin allows write actions.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- Client ID (clientId) [required]: Under Settings, then API access, in the Upfluence app. Choose Create client credentials, then use the copy button.
- Client secret (clientSecret) [required]: Shown once, next to the Client ID. If you closed that window, create new credentials. Stored encrypted, and used only to get short-lived access tokens from Upfluence.

## Verify

PopMCP marks the Upfluence connection Verified and shows it as Upfluence credentials ending in the last four characters of your Client ID. Your token balance appears beside it when Upfluence shares it. Asking the AI to check your Upfluence token balance returns the same numbers.

## Troubleshooting

### "Upfluence did not accept this Client ID and Client secret..."

Cause: A value was copied incompletely, the two were swapped, or the credentials were revoked.

Fix: Open Settings, then API access, in Upfluence and copy the Client ID again. The secret cannot be shown twice, so if you do not have it, create new credentials.

### There is no API access tab in Settings

Cause: Upfluence does not publish which roles or plans include it.

Fix: Ask your Upfluence account manager at success@upfluence.com, or use the live chat.

### PopMCP says the account is not set up as an API account

Cause: Upfluence answers no_api_account on its balance calls when the account is not an API account.

Fix: Ask Upfluence Customer Success to turn on API access. Other calls may still work in the meantime, as Upfluence's docs say they can on any account.

### 402 or "Limit exceeded"

Cause: The account has used its Upfluence API tokens.

Fix: Ask the AI to check your Upfluence token balance, then get more through your account manager.

### PopMCP says these credentials could not reach campaigns or streams

Cause: Upfluence says each access token is scoped to an application, and this credential was refused on that part of the API.

Fix: Ask Upfluence support to add that part to your account, then check the connection again. Everything else keeps working.

### A creator's link answers 404

Cause: Upfluence does not know that profile yet.

Fix: Ask the AI to add it from the link. The ingest tool does that, once write actions are allowed.

### 429 Too Many Requests

Cause: Upfluence allows about 20 requests a second and 100 at once.

Fix: Wait a second or two and run calls one at a time.
