# TikTok Ads setup for PopMCP

You end up pasting the App ID and App Secret of an approved developer app, read from My Apps > App Detail > Basic Information in the TikTok API for Business portal.

- Auth: OAuth authorization
- Setup time: 30 min of forms, then up to 6 business days of TikTok review
- API base URL: https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_api/v1.3
- Credentials screen: https://business-api.tiktok.com/portal
- Provider docs: https://business-api.tiktok.com/portal/docs?id=1738373141733378

## Approval required before this works

A TikTok Marketing API app must be submitted to TikTok for Business and approved - the app status has to reach Live - before real advertisers can authorise it and before tokens return live ad account data.

- Typical wait: TikTok's developer FAQ is the only vendor-stated figure: "App review may take several days to two weeks after submission." TikTok publishes no separate SLA for Marketing API apps. Business verification, if required, is its own 1-3 business days on top, and a data-security review can extend this further.
- Cost: No fee for the developer app, sandbox, or the review. Ad spend is separate.
- Blocked until approved: Live advertiser authorisation. Until the app is Live the OAuth consent URL will not return an auth code for a real advertiser account, so no campaign, ad group, ad, audience, creative or reporting endpoint returns production data. Products and scopes are granted individually, so an approved app still cannot call endpoints outside the scopes it was approved for, and higher-volume or sensitive access (large-scale reporting, audience upload) needs a further request with business verification.
- Works meanwhile: Register at business-api.tiktok.com/portal, create an app and receive an App ID and secret immediately, then create a sandbox ad account from the developer portal. The sandbox lets you run the full request/response cycle - campaign and ad group creation, reporting shapes, error handling - against simulated data with no review and no ad spend.

## Before you begin

- A TikTok For Business account
- An approved developer profile. Registration is reviewed within three business days and requires a verified company-domain email, since personal and temporary emails are rejected
- A public, fully built company website on a domain you own that matches your email domain. TikTok does not onboard individual developers
- Developer app review, which takes two to three business days. Each developer may hold up to five apps
- At least one advertiser redirect URL you control (up to 10 per app, localhost allowed)

## Get your credentials

### 1. Register as a developer

Click Become a Developer, fill in your name and a company-domain communication email, click Send Code, then paste the code into Verification Code. Select your user type, enter your company name and company website, choose your Primary Developer Location, and click Submit.

Screen: https://business-api.tiktok.com/portal

### 2. Create a developer app

Click Create an App and give it a descriptive name such as `PopMCP Ads Connector`. Fill in App description with your intended uses and access controls, then add an advertiser redirect URL.

Screen: https://business-api.tiktok.com/portal

### 3. Select the scope of permission and submit

Under Scope of permission, tick every permission group the connector needs. Click Confirm to submit the app for review.

### 4. Wait for Verification Status to turn approved

Click the red button in the top right and open My Apps. Check the Verification Status column, and click the app name to open App Detail.

Screen: https://business-api.tiktok.com/portal

### 5. Copy the App ID and App Secret

Open My Apps > App Detail > Basic Information. Copy App ID into PopMCP's App ID field and App Secret into App Secret.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- App ID (clientId) [required]: TikTok API for Business → My Apps → your app → Basic Information → App ID. A numeric id.
- App Secret (clientSecret) [required]: Same screen as the App ID. Stored encrypted, used server-side only, and never sent to the browser or to any tool.

## Callback URL to register

https://app.popmcp.com/api/providers/tiktok-ads/callback

## Scopes requested

- Ad Account Management
- Ads Management
- Audience Management
- Creative Management
- Reporting
- Comment Management
- Lead Generation
- Business Center Management
- Catalog Management
- Event Management

## Verify

PopMCP shows TikTok Ads as Connected. After the advertiser opens the authorization URL, agrees to the Platform Service Agreement, clicks Send Code and enters the emailed verification code, the ad account appears in the connector's account picker and the campaign and reporting tools are listed.

## Troubleshooting

### An error appears as soon as you try to create an app

Cause: Your developer profile has not been approved yet.

Fix: Wait for the registration decision, which takes up to three business days, and re-check that the communication email is on a verified company domain.

### The advertiser authorization link fails or shows a generic failure toast

Cause: TikTok flagged the request as abnormal, or the advertiser is authorizing a different app than one they were recently verified for.

Fix: Retry later. The advertiser must complete the Send Code email verification again for a new developer app, because a previous verification stays valid for only 48 hours and only for the same app.

### Token exchange returns an invalid auth_code error

Cause: The auth_code is valid for one hour and can be used only once.

Fix: Have the advertiser open the authorization URL again and complete the connect flow in PopMCP promptly.

### A tool returns code 40100

Cause: You hit the app's global QPS, QPM or QPD rate limit.

Fix: Back off. QPM limits clear after 5 minutes and QPD limits reset at 00:00 UTC. Apply for a higher level through My Apps > App Detail > Authorization. TikTok raises limits one level at a time.

### Calls to an endpoint return a permission error even though the app is approved

Cause: The endpoint needs a scope you did not select.

Fix: Go to My Apps > your app > Scope of permission, click the edit icon, add the scope with a justification and submit. It is reviewed in two to three business days.

### The registration form rejects your company website

Cause: TikTok requires a publicly accessible, fully built site on a domain your company owns that matches the email domain.

Fix: Use the real company domain rather than a shortened link, a social profile or a marketplace storefront, and make sure product and company information loads without a login.
