# OptinMonster setup for PopMCP

Nothing has to be typed into PopMCP. You click Sign in with OptinMonster, approve PopMCP, sign in to OptinMonster and choose what your AI may do. There is no developer app or callback URL to set up. Under More options you can use an OptinMonster API key instead of signing in, which reaches lead export and delete, tags, integrations and revenue reporting, but not campaign design or display rules.

- Auth: OAuth authorization
- Setup time: 1 min
- API base URL: https://mcp.optinmonster.com/mcp
- Credentials screen: https://app.optinmonster.com/account/api/
- Provider docs: https://optinmonster.com/mcp/

## Before you begin

- An OptinMonster account. Its pricing page lists MCP access from the Basic plan
- A login whose role in OptinMonster allows what the AI should do: the AI can never do more than your own role
- Pop-up blockers must allow the OptinMonster sign-in window to open
- Only if the AI should change anything: an owner or admin in PopMCP to allow write actions

## Get your credentials

### 1. Start the connection from PopMCP

Open the OptinMonster connector in PopMCP and click Sign in with OptinMonster. There are no fields to fill in: no API key, no developer app and nothing to register.

### 2. Approve PopMCP

A page on mcp.optinmonster.com asks Approve this connection? and names PopMCP. Click Continue. Choose Cancel if you do not recognize the application or address it shows.

### 3. Sign in and choose permissions

Sign in to OptinMonster and choose the permissions to grant. Reading and editing are separate, and lead details such as emails are separate from lead counts, so you can leave off anything your AI should not touch. You return to PopMCP when you are done.

### 4. Or connect with an API key

Optional, instead of signing in. Open My Account, then API in OptinMonster, create or copy an API key, then in PopMCP open More options and paste it. A key reaches lead lists, export and delete, tags, integrations and revenue reporting, but not campaign design or display rules. To have both, add a second connection.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- How you connect (connectionType): Click Sign in, approve PopMCP, sign in to OptinMonster and choose what your AI may do. There is nothing to copy or paste.
- API key (instead of signing in) (apiKey): Adds lead lists, export and delete, tags, integrations and revenue reporting, but not campaign design or display rules. In OptinMonster open My Account, then API. Stored encrypted and used only on our servers.

## Troubleshooting

### The sign-in window never opens

Cause: A pop-up blocker is stopping the OptinMonster sign-in window.

Fix: Allow pop-ups for PopMCP in your browser and click Sign in with OptinMonster again.

### A tool you expected is missing or refused

Cause: That permission was not granted at sign-in, or your role in OptinMonster does not allow it.

Fix: Reconnect OptinMonster in PopMCP and tick that permission, or ask an account owner about your role.

### PopMCP says no permissions were granted

Cause: Every permission was left off during sign-in.

Fix: Connect again and tick at least the read permissions.

### Your API key is not accepted

Cause: The key was mistyped or revoked, or it is the older API username and key pair.

Fix: Create a key under My Account, then API, in OptinMonster and paste it again.
