# monday.com setup for PopMCP

You paste one value into PopMCP: your monday.com personal API token, a long JWT-style string copied from the Developer Center. The API version box is optional and can stay blank.

- Auth: API credentials
- Setup time: 2 min
- API base URL: https://api.monday.com/v2
- Credentials screen: https://YOUR-ACCOUNT.monday.com/apps/manage/tokens (replace YOUR-ACCOUNT with your monday.com account)
- Provider docs: https://developer.monday.com/api-reference/reference/about-the-api-reference

## Before you begin

- A monday.com account on any plan, including Free
- The token mirrors your own UI permissions. You must already be able to see the boards you want the MCP to read or write.
- Account admins can read the same token from Administration, Connections, Personal API token

## Get your credentials

### 1. Open the Developer Center

Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner and choose Developers. The Developer Center opens in a new tab at `https://<your-account>.monday.com/apps/manage/`.

Screen: https://YOUR-ACCOUNT.monday.com/apps/manage/tokens (replace YOUR-ACCOUNT with your monday.com account)

### 2. Open the API token tab

In the Developer Center left menu, click API token under API.

Screen: https://YOUR-ACCOUNT.monday.com/apps/manage/tokens (replace YOUR-ACCOUNT with your monday.com account)

### 3. Reveal and copy the token

Click Show, then select and copy the entire string. It is a long JWT value with two dots in it.

Screen: https://YOUR-ACCOUNT.monday.com/apps/manage/tokens (replace YOUR-ACCOUNT with your monday.com account)

### 4. Paste it into PopMCP

Paste the value into API token in PopMCP and click Save. Leave API version blank.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- API token (apiToken) [required]: In monday.com, click your avatar (bottom-left) → Developers → "My access tokens" → copy your token. Stored encrypted; used server-side only. The token doesn't expire and inherits your account permissions.
- API version (optional) (apiVersion):

## Verify

PopMCP reports the monday.com connection as Connected and a board listing tool returns your real board names. The underlying `me { id name }` query resolves to your monday user.

## Troubleshooting

### There is no Developers option in the avatar menu

Cause: Your role does not expose the Developer Center on this account.

Fix: Ask an account admin to read the value from **Administration**, **Connections**, **Personal API token**.

### 401 with `Not Authenticated` or `ApiKey is invalid`

Cause: A partially copied token, or a stale one after somebody clicked **Regenerate**.

Fix: Reveal the token again in the Developer Center, copy the entire string, and re-save it in PopMCP.

### `ComplexityException` or complexity budget exhausted

Cause: GraphQL queries burned through the per-minute complexity points for your plan.

Fix: Wait the number of seconds in `retry_in_seconds`, then ask for fewer columns or fewer items per page.

### Daily call limit reached

Cause: Free, Basic and Standard accounts are capped at 1,000 API calls per day, resetting at midnight UTC.

Fix: Wait for the reset or upgrade the monday plan. Pro and Enterprise get much larger soft limits.

### A field or argument suddenly errors

Cause: The default API version rolled forward to a newer quarterly release with a breaking change.

Fix: Set the optional **API version** field in PopMCP to the dated version your workflow was built against.
