# Fish Audio setup for PopMCP

You end up pasting one Fish Audio secret key, created on the API Keys page and shown only once, into PopMCP, plus an optional TTS model id such as s2.1-pro.

- Auth: API credentials
- Setup time: 3 min
- API base URL: https://api.fish.audio
- Credentials screen: https://fish.audio/app/api-keys/
- Provider docs: https://docs.fish.audio/api-reference/introduction

## Before you begin

- A Fish Audio account signed in at fish.audio
- API credit topped up if you plan to use a paid model. The s2.1-pro-free tier costs nothing but carries no latency guarantee.
- API credit is separate from the playground quota included with a Premium plan

## Get your credentials

### 1. Open the API Keys page

Sign in at fish.audio and click API Keys under Developer in the left sidebar. You can also go straight to `fish.audio/app/api-keys/`.

Screen: https://fish.audio/app/api-keys/

### 2. Create a key

Click Create API Key and type `PopMCP` into Key name. Choose Never Expire under Expiration, then click Create.

Screen: https://fish.audio/app/api-keys/

### 3. Copy the key before you close the dialog

Click Copy API key in the Save your API key dialog and paste it into your password manager. Click I've saved my key to close.

### 4. Paste the key into PopMCP and pick a model

Paste the secret into API key on PopMCP's Fish Audio form. Leave TTS model (optional) blank to use `s2.1-pro-free`, or enter `s2.1-pro`, `s2-pro` or `s1` to bill against your API credit.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- API key (apiKey) [required]: Fish Audio dashboard (fish.audio) → Go to App → API Keys → Create/Copy. Stored encrypted; used server-side only (sent as Authorization: Bearer). The connection is locked to this key's account.
- TTS model (optional) (model): Which backend engine text-to-speech uses. Leave blank for s2.1-pro-free, the free developer tier that works for every key with no credit usage. Enter s2.1-pro (flagship), s2-pro, or s1 to use a paid model for higher quality (requires API credit).

## Verify

The Fish Audio connector in PopMCP shows Connected, and a text-to-speech tool returns playable audio. The call also appears under API Billing in the Fish Audio dashboard.

## Troubleshooting

### 401 Unauthorized

Cause: The key was pasted with surrounding whitespace, or it has since been deleted or has expired.

Fix: Check the key's row on the API Keys page reads Active, and create a fresh key if it reads Expired.

### The connection worked and then stopped after a month

Cause: The key was created with a 7, 30 or 90 day expiry.

Fix: Create a replacement key with Never Expire and update it in PopMCP.

### Payment or insufficient-credit error on a paid model

Cause: The s2.1-pro, s2-pro and s1 models consume API credit, which is separate from any Premium playground quota.

Fix: Top up API credit under API Billing, or clear the TTS model field so the connection falls back to s2.1-pro-free.

### Requests queue or fail under load

Cause: Every key on the account shares one concurrency allowance, which starts at 5 concurrent requests.

Fix: Shorten requests, or top up $100 or more to move to 15 concurrent requests. Topping up $1,000 or more unlocks 50.

### API access suddenly suspended across all keys

Cause: The Fish Audio account was scheduled for closure, which suspends every key immediately.

Fix: Contact Fish Audio support to reinstate the account before reconnecting.
