# ElevenLabs setup for PopMCP

You end up pasting a single ElevenLabs API key, the `sk_...` string sent as the `xi-api-key` header, into PopMCP. That is the only field.

- Auth: API credentials
- Setup time: 3 min
- API base URL: https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1
- Credentials screen: https://elevenlabs.io/app/settings/api-keys
- Provider docs: https://elevenlabs.io/docs/api-reference/introduction

## Before you begin

- An ElevenLabs account on any plan, including Free
- A Full Seat on the workspace, which is what personal API key creation requires
- For a key that survives people leaving the team, a multi-seat plan plus workspace admin rights so you can create a service account key instead

## Get your credentials

### 1. Open your API keys settings

Sign in at elevenlabs.io, click your profile icon in the top right and choose Settings, then open API Keys. The direct link is elevenlabs.io/app/settings/api-keys.

Screen: https://elevenlabs.io/app/settings/api-keys

### 2. Create a key for PopMCP

Click Create API Key, name it `PopMCP`, and leave Expire After on Never. Leave the scope and IP restrictions switched off.

Screen: https://elevenlabs.io/app/settings/api-keys

### 3. Copy the key before closing the dialog

Copy the `sk_` string straight away, ElevenLabs shows the full key only once.

### 4. Paste it into PopMCP

In PopMCP paste the key into API key and click Connect.

### 5. Optional: use a service account key instead

For a key that outlives one person, click your profile icon, choose Workspace settings and open the Service Accounts tab. Create a key there and paste that one into PopMCP.

## Fields PopMCP asks for

- API key (apiKey) [required]: ElevenLabs dashboard → Settings → API Keys → Create/Copy. Stored encrypted; used server-side only (sent in the xi-api-key header). The connection is locked to this key's workspace.

## Verify

The ElevenLabs card in PopMCP shows Connected with your workspace name, and a test 'list voices' call returns your voice library.

## Troubleshooting

### 401 Unauthorized

Cause: The key was truncated on copy, it was revoked, or it passed its Expire After date.

Fix: Create a fresh key under Settings → API Keys with Expire After set to Never, then paste the complete sk_ string.

### missing_permissions on some tools only

Cause: The key was created with endpoint scope restrictions.

Fix: Create a new key with restrictions turned off, or add the specific scopes the failing tools need.

### 403 on every call from your server

Cause: The key has an IP allowlist that does not cover the calling host.

Fix: Edit the key and add the caller's public IP or CIDR range, or remove the allowlist.

### quota_exceeded

Cause: The key hit its credit quota, or the workspace ran out of characters for the month.

Fix: Raise or clear the key's credit quota on the API Keys page, or top up the plan.

### The key was disabled without you doing anything

Cause: GitHub secret scanning found the key in a public repository and ElevenLabs disabled it, reporting disable_reason exposed_publicly.

Fix: Create a replacement key, update PopMCP, and remove the leaked key from the repository history.

### 401 detected_unusual_activity

Cause: ElevenLabs blocks Free-tier API traffic it flags as abusive, commonly from VPN, proxy or datacentre IPs.

Fix: Upgrade the workspace to any paid plan, then reconnect.
